In 1985, teacher Don Dempsey created the first version
of The Complete Gradebook to simplify the grading and
record keeping requirements of his own classes. Soon
other teachers began to ask for copies of his program,
and as word caught on Don realized there was a great
demand for a comprehensive and easy-to-use grading tool
such as his. Don used his fellow teachers' feedback
to continue developing and enhancing the program --
a tradition still alive with the "yearly upgrade"
available to all previous purchasers.

Plain Old Software was created in 1986 by Don as the
program was offered for commercial sale for the first
time. Over the years "tens of thousands of happy
users" have purchases the gradebook, most referred
by word of mouth and the recommendation of fellow teachers.
Developer Sheldon Smith came on board in 1996 to move
the program from a TurboBasic platform to a Visual Basic
one. Sheldon has remained with the company and helped
expand the program to include a network version and
an administrator module.

In March 2002, Plain Old Software partnered
with GenOmega Software Systems, Inc. This set in motion
the next version of The Complete Gradebook that will
include a new dynamic interface, a server version, and
more.
